Untold Orchestra

I have worked as a freelance arranger and orchestrator for Untold Orchestra for several projects including for Mali Hayes at Manchester Jazz Festival, and for many of their showcase gigs including: Aretha Franklin, James Bond, Joni Mitchell, Motown Specials, Nina Simone, Paul Simon and Christmas Specials.

Sally Potter

I am the assistant composer to film director and composer Sally Potter OBE. All of our work undergoes a rigorous arranging, transcription and orchestration process to get music ready for recording and performance. I have worked with her on two album releases, single releases and on a new unnamed project.

Jemma Freese

Jemma Freese is a jazz musician based in Sheffield, who is supported by Jazz North and Serious. Amongst her many projects, including keyboard player for Maximo Park and hybrid jazz duo J2oh, in 2020, Jemma lost the strength in her whole body. Bed-bound with global shooting pains and weakness that doctors couldn’t diagnose, she found herself unable to play her instrument for several months, temporarily halting her performance career. She wrote Shadow Boxing entirely through multi-tracking her voice, and I arranged and transcribed this into the album for the musicians. I also transcribed and arranged her upcoming album.

Personal Development

In my own music, I have written and arranged for a variety of ensembles, including: full orchestra, string orchestra, string quartet, wind band, wind quintet, percussion duo, solo instruments, bands and mixed ensembles. I also have a thorough understanding of writing for, and the sound of different ensembles from my studies in Music, my masters in composition, and my time as a performing musician across multitudes of genres.

Score Engraving and Proof Reading

I have a highly proficient attention to detail for proof reading and editing scores. I regularly undertake proof-reading and engraving work for composers. Previous clients include Carmel Smickersgill and Áine Mallon.

Audio, Noise and Editing

I am skilled with multiple DAWS, including Reaper, Logic Pro X and Cubase. I am also proficient with Pro Tools. I am highly experienced at precise and detailed audio editing and mixing. I also undertake audio and noise cleaning services for audio. My plugins include but are not limited to: iZotope Ozone, iZotope RX, fabfilter and Native Instruments.

Additional Technical Requirements

I provide additional technical support for project and events, and I'm open to discussion on what your needs might be and how I might be able to fulfil them. In 2022 I created complicated click tracks for conducting for a Psappha concert with the music of Peter Maxwell Davies.

I work as an educator and facilitator across Manchester with 6+ years experience delivering in schools, private and SEND environments. I have specialised in delivering music sessions and workshops on composition, brass, piano, improvisation, theory and musicality. I have taught all

ages and abilities from beginners to honing skills post-conservatoire. I passionately believe that nobody should access barriers to the benefits that playing and performing music can provide, and strive to reflect this in my work and the projects I take on.

Recent experience:

Olympias Music Foundation SEND Facilitation (2023-2024)

I worked as a SEND facilitator for Olympias Music Foundation at St John's Vianney RC School

in Manchester for 6 weeks in 2023. This involved age ranges of 10-18 and included both group sessions and intensive interaction sessions 1 on 1. I also delivered songwriting workshops to the school classes, culminating in original songs and recordings for each group. They can be viewed here.

SEND & Looked After Children Music Sessions (2021-2024)

I deliver SEND & looked after children music curriculum sessions for Stockport Music Service

at Oak Grove School in Stockport. This includes all primary school year groups and largely

focuses on group teaching and bringing student understanding of music towards national guidelines. Our latest project involved each class writing their own song, rhythms, melodies

and bass-lines and getting involved with some production too. Due to their complex needs and requirements, the approach I take is highly supportive, creative and engaging to carry the class focus and morale. To support this, I draw upon my wide range of experience as a musician, building sessions around classical/jazz/klezmer/hip-hop, and moving between singing, playing, ensemble work, recording, music tech and composing.

Psappha "Very Young Composer" Scheme (2022)

The "Very Young Composer" scheme was run in conjunction with the New York Philharmonic and focused on enabling primary school children in Merseyside whom had never engaged with music, to write new pieces of music for a small ensemble from Psappha. I worked as a Teaching Artist, facilitating the sessions at two schools across the entire summer term, working on musical parameter understandings, introductions to instruments, notation, themes and concepts and finally performances.

Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra "This Is Us" (2022)

"This Is Us" was a scheme run for children in schools (secondary and primary) in north-east Manchester in Moston and Harpurhey. The scheme involved visiting schools for several months

to help write a song for each school group that represented the participants and gave them a

voice. I was a supporting facilitator and musician for this project.
